“Don’t Worship Me!” Jamaican Dancehall Artist Vybz Kartel Urges Kenyan Youth

Celebrated Jamaican dancehall guru, Adidja Azim Palmer better known as Vybz Kartel, has been the subject of controversy in the country.
The musician has been in Kenyan headlines due to Kayole youth members of a gang dubbed Gaza. Apparently the youth who have pledged their allegiance to him have been terrorizing residents in the area.
In a report by the Nairobian, former members of the gang have come forward to reveal that they would look up-to the popular musician as their ‘god’ and thereafter behave as the musician.
Through a popular Jamaican show, Souflo TV, the artist set the record straight on the matter. The show’s host after being prompted by a concerned caller from Kenya, on video on his Youtube channel said;
“I have been told today about a gang in Kenya that actually worships Vybz Kartel as their god. The problem is this gang is also extremely violent and has been murdering people left right and centre among other crimes.”
Speaking on behalf of Vybz Kartel who is currently in jail the host said; “Kartel does not support these things. This is not part of Kartel. Whoever is misguiding these youths should remember that music is very powerful, and what they are probably doing is that they are using Kartel’s powerful music to indoctrinate these guys.”
