Brooklyn street to be named after Notorious B.I.G.

Notorious B.I.G will have a street named after him 22 years after his death.

Biggie Smalls, real name Christopher Wallace, was killed in 1997 in a drive-by shooting outside the Petersen Automotive Museum, in Los Angeles.

On what would have been his 47th birthday the Brooklyn road he lived on will officially be renamed Christopher Wallace Way as a tribute.

The renaming petition was approved by the Brooklyn Community Board last November after a 33-1 vote.

The change will take place on June 10, with a public ceremony commemorating the moment.

"Honouring Biggie symbolises more than just one man. It symbolises a culture. It symbolises a borough. It symbolises a people, and hip-hop is worldwide," LeRoy McCarthy, who led the endeavour, told Rolling Stone.

There have been other memorials to The Notorious B.I.G. in Brooklyn, including a Biggie mural dubbed 'King of New York' on Bedford Avenue and Quincy Street.

In 2016, McCarthy declared May 21st 'Notorious B.I.G. Day' in Brooklyn.
