Senator Millicent Omanga’s take on Wamlambez anthem

While the latest phrase ‘Wamlambez’ courtesy of fast-rising group Sailors is on jet fuel among millennials, the song is slowly but surely catching up with the 'older' generation.

Take for instance Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga who today poked her followers to a frenzy by asking what one is supposed to respond should one shout out the catchphrase.

As expected, the responses were as hilarious, enchanting and stinging as the song itself that has clocked over 1.9 million views on YouTube.

“Ati huyo msee ameshout wamlambez nimjibu aje,” posed the senator on Instagram.

The answers from some of her 32.2 thousand followers told it all.

“Wamnyonyezzzzzzz,” responded Radio Maisha’s Billy Miya.

“Wamnyonyezz, best Senator,” added Shem Kugwa.

Not one to jump on the bandwagon, Coach Alfred had the following advice to Omanga. “Pereka uko!!!!Lakini mshowtu Wamnonyeez asicatch.”

Suzzan Owiyo

Benga maestro Suzzan Owiyo on July 21 was also in the same dilemma.

Owiyo tweeted that no one can afford to ignore the catchy song that has become an anthem among the youth and spurned hundreds of memes and parodies.

“Last night I happen to be in a youthful environment just for some few minutes. Wah!I didn’t mind the music until the DJ shouted on the mic, mnataka gani? Wamlambez! And the crowd responded Wamyonyez. Honestly, you can’t afford to ignore this track? It hits you before you know it,” wrote the celebrated Kenyan artiste.

Boniface Mwangi

Hours earlier, award-winning human rights activist Boniface Mwangi took some minutes off his United States visit to shout out the craze sweeping Kenya.

“Niko raundi Times Square, sijui nianze ku-shout Wamlambez,“ he tweeted with a series of photos in Midtown Manhattan, New York.

Part of Mwangi’s itinerary in the US was an address at Bretton Woods on July 22.

Listed among three evening keynote speakers, he was flown to the venue in a private jet.
