Julie Gichuru recalls being depressed, insulting and abusing God


Celebrated media personality Julie Gichuru continued to serve as an inspiration to many when she opened up about her battle with depression.

The former Citizen TV news anchor was only 21(in 1995) and in college when her once-happy family seemingly fell apart. After her parents divorced, Julie’s father remarried and her mother emigrated.

In addition to not having a home to go back to, Julie did not have money to complete her Law Degree at the University of Cardiff.

According to Julie, she had to take up two jobs that helped her through college.

“I was in the throes of deep depression. My parents divorced, Dad remarried and Mum emigrated. I had no home to go back to. I didn’t have enough money to complete my degree. I was frightened and anxious,” narrated Julie.

In fact, the mother of four was angry with God but she still trusted Him to see her through the trying time.

“I lamented with God, I told Him I was so angry with Him, but I still loved Him and I asked Him to hold me tight and never let me go. I found two jobs at this point and studied hard.

She concluded: “I didn’t know where I would end up but I knew knowledge would get me there. As long as I had breath in my body, I was going to get there.”
